Everything you need to know about working with Ride420

Who can apply?

You must have a valid EU driving licence with minimum 2 years EU driving experience, be aged 25 or older, have strong English skills (all exams are in English), clean conduct, and be willing to relocate to Malta with sufficient savings for the first month.

Why is the minimum age 25?

This is an insurance requirement. There are no exceptions to this rule.

What English level is required?

CRITICAL: All licensing exams (theory, regulations, safety & compliance) are 100% in English. If you cannot clearly understand and read English, you will fail the exams. Ride420 does not reimburse failed exams. You must be able to communicate with customers in English as well.

What is clean conduct?

Clean conduct is a certificate from your homeland authorities showing you have no criminal record. This is required for all drivers and must be provided during the application process.

What are the driving licence requirements?

How much can I earn?

Earnings are commission-based and depend on hours worked, demand, and performance:

How are payments made?

Payments are made weekly with transparent calculation based on completed work only.

What costs do drivers pay?

Drivers are responsible for:

  • Charging costs for electric vehicles
  • Fuel costs for hybrid vehicles
  • Traffic fines and penalties
  • Insurance excess if driver is at fault
  • All accommodation and living expenses

How long is the licensing period?

The TAG & Y-Plate licensing process takes approximately 5 weeks. You cannot drive cabs legally before completion.

What is the First-Time Pass Bonus?

If you pass ALL exams on the FIRST attempt, you receive a €400 bonus paid with your first salary week.

This is a bonus, not a reimbursement or advance. If any exam is failed, the bonus is not paid and all costs remain the driver's responsibility.

What happens if I fail an exam?

If you fail any exam, you must retake it at your own cost. The First-Time Pass Bonus is not paid. Ride420 does not reimburse failed exams.

Can I earn money during the licensing period?

There is no income during the 5-week licensing period. Earnings are commission-based once you start driving. Optional delivery work may be available but is not guaranteed. Many drivers choose not to do it. You must arrive with €1,500-€2,500 minimum savings to cover all living costs during this period.

Do you provide accommodation?

Ride420 does NOT provide free accommodation.

What we provide:

  • Connection to real estate agent
  • Help connecting with other drivers
  • Encouragement of shared housing

Drivers pay for rent, deposit, utilities, and all living expenses. Shared housing is encouraged to reduce costs.

How much money should I bring to Malta?

Minimum €1,500-€2,500 to cover accommodation, food, transport, and living costs during the 5-week licensing period when earnings are commission-based.

What relocation support do you provide?

We assist with Social Security Number registration, tax registration, licensing guidance, accommodation search connections, and connecting you with other drivers.

Do you provide vehicle & insurance?

Yes. Company vehicles are provided (modern electric and hybrid fleet) with full comprehensive insurance. Vehicles are clean and air-conditioned. Insurance excess applies if the driver is at fault.

What are the working hours?

Each driver has access to the vehicle for up to 12 hours per day. Drivers manage their own schedule within these limits. Electric cars must be returned at minimum 90% charge.

What about sickness or absence?

Covered according to company policy - up to 1 week every 6 months with a fixed support payment of €200. Income outside this depends on work completed.

What type of contract is it?

Employed position (not self-employed) with a definite 1-year contract that is renewable. Legal employment in Malta. If the driver resigns early, Maltese law applies and remaining contract obligations may be payable.

Which platforms do you work with?

Ride420 is a subcontractor for Bolt, Uber, and eCabs. These are third-party companies. Access depends on driver performance, platform rules, and legal compliance. Ride420 does not control demand or platform algorithms.

Is Ride420 legal and compliant?

Yes. We have obtained the required PSG (Public Service Garage) permit, allowing us to operate legally and expand the fleet in Malta.

What is the reality of the job?

Driving in Malta requires patience. As in any service job, difficult customers exist. Professional behavior is required at all times. This is real work with real challenges - not shortcuts or unrealistic promises.

What documents do I need to apply?

Required documents:

  • CV / Resume
  • EU driving licence (clear copy, both sides)
  • ID or passport
  • Clean conduct for homeland authorities

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

How do I apply?
